SAFETY OF UKRAINE’S NUCLEAR POWER INDUSTRY IN EXTREME OPERATING CONDITIONS

An urgent issue of the state (level) safety Ukraine’s nuclear power industry in extreme conditions is situation Zaporizhzhia NPP, largest Europe, due to station’s location war zone and difficulties its management operation, as well regulation station occupied territory. In proposed article, possibility Zaporizhia NPP industrial site flooding analyzed from elaborated hydrodynamic model justifying calculation; ZNPP possible are determined depending on warhead producing a corresponding destructive effect. Probabilistic approaches assessing objective insufficiently justified taking into account lessons radiation accidents. On basis deterministic approach, critical military action identified. Flooding plant’s may cause two initial emergency events: complete long-term de-energization units violation heat exchange spent fuel dry storage facilities. Prevention can be based construction protective flood barriers cooling pond coast. Prospective directions increase accident efficiency related units’ passive systems modernization improvement operational symptom-oriented instructions/manuals for managing severe (nuclear) accidents have been effective strategy with WWER comprehensive recharge steam generators driven pumps natural circulation circuits removal pressurized reactor unit.
